I find my husband so irritating

Finding everything your partner does irritating can be stressful, worrying and frustrating. It can make you feel like your relationship is a burden instead of a positive thing in your life. Think about all the things that you like about your partner and try to recognise how lucky you are to have someone that makes you feel safe and appreciated, even if they occasionally get on your nerves. And remember: you probably have a few habits they find irritating too!

When Your Husband Irritates You..

Why does it feel like everything your husband does irritates you? You wind up feeling terrible, and so does he. And resentment starts to build. No matter how frustrated or exasperated you might feel, all is not lost!

You're just in stuck mode. Even when you changed your approach, the goal was to get him to change: how he behaves, how he consistently forgets things, or how he disappoints you, over and over. The bottom line is, you have to stop expecting him to change! That's why, in order to fix your husband's annoying bad habits and stop feeling so irritated with him, it's not about keeping score — it's about keeping things positive and shifting your mindset.

Shed your attitude and all of the missed expectations that have resulted in weeks, months and even years of agitation and disappointment — so you can start moving forward with an open mind and heart. Exactly… imagine that! Most certainly, this is not about you giving up on your marriage! This is about you changing how you show up in this marriage. You think differently about things now.

What do you see? Letting go is freedom. This is about you winning and reclaiming yourself in the process. When you no longer expect anything different, your entire demeanor changes. In other words, your vibe changes. He might not be able to point a finger as to how it changed, or who changed first. He just feels happier like things are good between the two of you. Let him help you, even though he might not do it the way you like it done.

Remember, his intention is to participate and show up in his own way, when he does it. There will always be challenges, but — instead of seeing the blockages —they dissipate and our vision becomes clearer.

Your increased happiness and contentment will positively spread into all of your relationships and areas of life. Margot Brown has helped couples and individuals create happier lives for over twenty years.

Julie’s Three Ways to Deal With an Annoying Husband

Sitting in the lobby of some hotel, I would feel stifled at his choice of topics for conversation. I felt pressured to read up before we met so that I would look at least somewhat intelligent. We got married about five months after we met, and I was a nervous wreck. As a newlywed, my husband was always thinking of ways to delight me, like bringing home an ice cream cone for us to share. Still, I would be annoyed.

Why does it feel like everything your husband does irritates you? You wind up feeling terrible, and so does he. And resentment starts to build.

He went on to give examples of when a car would not need tire cleaning, just a body wash. In no time, an easy Saturday morning chatter had dissolved into hubby-trying-to-get-the-upper-hand-and-win—the-conversation slug out. Have you had moments when you know the truth but you still want to stay mad? I was drained, emotionally and physically. I had little margin for daily life.

Everything my partner does irritates me

Does your hubby irritate you? Is he slowly driving you mad with his array of petty but annoying behaviours? I hear you. Dumps sweaty gym clothes on top of laundry so everything is stinky and damp. Petty grievances can build up and become a slimy residue on the surface of a marriage. Makes a ridiculous amount of noise when he eats. Puts the radio on in the morning when I like peace and quiet. Runs the tap while brushing teeth — at full pelt. Opens the mail then leaves the ripped envelopes laying around. Inability to put his empty yoghurt pots or banana skins actually in the bin.
