Interdependency , or being able to depend on each other, is part of what makes a marriage special and successful. If one or both of you can't depend on each other, the viability of your marriage is questionable. When you make a promise to your spouse or say you'll do something for your spouse or family and then you don't keep your word, you're letting your spouse down and hurting your marriage. Keeping your word and following through on your promises helps to reinforce the trust that your spouse has in you. It makes your spouse feel unloved or unimportant as if he or she isn't worth the effort, and it probably makes you feel bad too. So why do people break their promises and not keep their word?

Hello, my boyfriend and I have been together for about a year now and have always had a close relationship and have even talked about getting married in the future.

He always seemed like the perfect guy and I couldn't have imagined a better person for me to be with. He is 25 and I'm About a month ago I discovered my boyfriend would receive and pass on emails containing sexual pictures of girls he knew. I saw that he stopped doing this after we started dating but I was still a little shaken by it and wanted to talk about it.

He promised me that it was all in his past and that he has never done it during our relationship and that it would never happen in the future. A few weeks later I saw that he had saved pictures on his phone of girls from his Facebook and then emailed them to an old email address. When I saw that, I was completely crushed and was ready to storm out and break up.

He stopped me and told me he didn't know why he did it and that he wasn't thinking. We got in a huge fight and I went home. The next day he told me that he had told his Mom everything and that she suggested he see a counselor and also delete his Facebook. I saw that he was deeply ashamed and wanted to do everything he could not to lose me.

I told him I would give him another chance. At this point, he has seen the counselor who told him that his behavior was completely normal for a guy his age and that he is doing the right thing by trying to get help and that now we both need to work on regaining our trust back Later we had a long talk and worked out a lot of issues involving what happened.

I'm ready to move past this and start building trust again but I can't because I don't understand why he broke the promise. Clearly the counselor did not help him understand this either as he still cannot give me an answer. I don't know where to go from here and how to help him find out why he did that and I need to know his reasoning's for breaking his promise before I can even begin to start trusting him again. No matter how much soul searching he does, no matter how many hours he spends with a councelor, there's only one answer for why anyone ever breaks a promise. They think they'll get away with it. That's the case here - I assume he just fears that if he tells you this, you won't be able to get over it. Here's something, though Do you have access to or are you aware of that e-mail account? Sounds to me like he just put them somewhere where you won't see them.

That sounds to me like he's just found a way to hide this better from you. It is impossible. We live, as we dream—alone Posts Karma: 10 Thank you received: 0. It may be normal for guys to look at pictures of naked girls, at any age. But saving pictures of girls to his phone and sending to an email account? Girls that he knew- that is not normal behavior for someone in a relationship- at least not to me.

The age excuse might be valid- but if he wants to have a grown up relationship- he should grow up. And lying is not normal behavior- regardless of age. Maybe he is not ready to settle down and be committed, and you should not waste your youth if that is the case! Replied by spicegirl on topic Boyfriend broke a promise. Did you hear the councelor say that to him. If a "boyfriend' can do this to you, its a sign, thats as far as your relationship should go!

I agree with the previous answers. A counselor isn't going to tell him this is all normal behavior. I think he's lying to you again. I think he will continue to do such things- only be smarter about hiding it from you. Maybe it's time to decide if this is the person you want to spend the rest of your life with or at least when you get tired of the lies and anything else that will accompany them or not.

There are a lot of men out there who aren't perverts this overtly and not liars either. Replied by CakeGirl on topic Boyfriend broke a promise. The counselor said she sees a lot of guys come in with that same problem. I asked if those guys also saved the photos and my boyfriend said yes.. I don't know if I believe that bit as it doesn't seem normal to me at all.

I can see guys checking out photos on Facebook but saving them is a different matter. Also, i asked him to show me what else was in that email after I saw what he was sending to himself and he showed me and the email was empty as he had not used it in so long that the emails all deleted I guess I am giving him another chance and I know that sounds crazy of me but I think if he is telling me the truth-that those were the only photos he sent himself and that he is never going hurt me like that again that he does deserve another chance.

He has all the qualities I am looking for besides honesty in this instance and we share the same values and goals in life. I know I am young but I can't see myself finding someone new with everything on my checklist checked off. Is it possible to move past this? I'm deeply hurt but don't want to lose someone that could be great for me, considering he changes. Does that sound crazy? To me that shows he regrets this and doesn't want it to happen again. What are your opinions about this?
